While growing older & realizing I am never going to change or conform, I began looking for others like me. I came upon this site that I never knew about & see that it was made in the early 2000's. Anyone still using it & around?

I see. Well, I'll just allow this account to float & see if anyone comes about. So weird.

Funny because I always liked this sort of thing but never really merged into the Gothic sub-culture until a few years ago. VF started taking over my wardrobe. LOL

I'm normally on here every day but having a quick look. Sadly I don't get much interaction on this site, maybe with the comments on the Topics but that's about it. Most of my Buddies don't talk to me and some haven't been online for 5yrs to 5 months! ๐Ÿ˜ข

Iโ€™ve been hanging around here since 2006, I became an admin in 2011, which was at the end of the siteโ€™s prime.

There really isnโ€™t anything to do except post in the forums and wait for people to join in.

I think when it comes to online communication it can unite people but also bring out the ugly side of people. Over the past couple of years I've noticed the negative reactions and misunderstandings from people, it can be from harmless comments or the most diplomatic ones. And there's Internet Troll's and Cyber Bullying. Maybe I'm overthinking it but from talking to people it's what makes them less involved in social networks. ๐Ÿ˜ข

But then again.....I say all of that but haven't personally experienced it on the Gothic social networks I'm on. It seems to be on mainstream social networks I get the negative backlash and so have to water down my personality to the extremes. ๐Ÿ˜’

Okie, I'm following what you all are saying. I dig it though. I'll take slower replies over the misplaced feeling of wanting interaction with others like me.

I understand what you mean, Karl. People can be so nasty on bigger platforms. I found that my Goth Moms group I'm in on Facebook has more open minded, kind & reasonable ladies in it than any other regular mom group I found.

I just found out about this site and joined when I was looking to see if Darkstarlings was still around. Ever since Vampirefreaks got rid of the chat boards and profiles I've been using FB and I find it boring. Thought I'd find more people like me on here.

Welcome! Hope you'll stay.
Maybe we can get this thing popular again haha. I was so heartbroken when I saw that VampireFreaks is just a shop now.
Yes, Facebook can be boring, inundated & a lil mean ๐Ÿ˜….

Part of my social problem is I grew up in the wrong environment. Goths and the alternative types aren't as common in the ACT especially while I was growing up so majority of people on my FB are going to be mundane. Which is fine! But it means they won't understand the things I like or know the bands I listen to....

I should add Canberra does have an alternative scene and has for decades but the people I went to school and work with totally weren't into that. I remember going to a frequent Goth event 2003 - 2006 with a friend and she would complain "where do these people go during the day!?" Her parents point out "they conform and have boring desk jobs like the rest of us." LOL

HHAHA!!!! IT MAKES PERFECT SENSE.
I worked at many jobs where I had to look professional. When they saw me on my off hours, the reactions were Gold.

Thank you lol
I hope so, it would be really nice. Even VampFreaks was popular before Jet took the social media down. Broke my heart.
Yea it hard to find a place on there. Got plenty of friends on there, just too dramatic for me.

In 2013 I was studying Graphic Design and for extra credit I used Publisher to put together and article on 'Corporate Goth'. I got my information and inspiration from a book Gothic Charm School by Jillian Venters (wish I still have it). Anyway, it occurred to me you can work in an office environment and work you sub culture into your office attire! ๐Ÿ˜

I still pop my head in here occasionally.
Karl, before the pandemic, Chrome and Sanctuary used to co host events either in Sydney or Canberra. I never made it to the Canberra events due to work and family but always made it to the Sydney events. I went to the first Sanctuary since 2019 this June which was fortunate because we are on lock down again.
CosmoLove it is sad the VF is gone but it wasn't what it used to be. Too many issues in the end.

Heya' Battleangel! I remember you saying! Before Chrome it was Lithium which went from 2003-2007. We still have OMG (Oh My Goth) which I think has been going since 2014? Vaguely remember posting a video on here from YouTube previewing an OMG event.

I remember that video because I recognised two people I know. lol
I remember Lithium as well but never been. So many clubs have come and gone yet Sanctuary remains even if it was on hiatus for over a decade.

Fortunately, Canberra's vey rare alternative bar - Reload is still around! Been open since 2015 (as far as I remember) and it's even expanded now and serves food which is awesome!
