What is happening in Gaza is an absolute travesty

I emphasize with Israel after what happened on October 7th, so I'm condoning what people did that day. It was an absolute war crime. At the same time I think the same empathy should be applied to the other side as well. I'm horrified by the hypocrisy from certain people. They respond as if October 7th was the only thing bad that happened. It makes me sick to my stomach how anyone can support what is happening in Gaza, and just ignore the over 50 year old occupation. I think antisemitism is bad(anyone that hate jews are racist idiots). At the same time, I can't defend this far right egomaniac that rules in Israel called Netanyahu.

There, I said it.

You make a very good point about the war against Palestine.

Unfortunately, not many people think about it the way we do.

I don't blame Israel for striking back at Hammas/Hezbollah, but they are being reckless and killing innocent civilians, possibly killing their own people who have been held hostage.

What people don't realise is Hezbollah/Hammas are heavily ingrained into Palestine. They launch attacks from civilian areas, have bases underneath schools and hospitals. That's why theirs civilian casualties. 😞

I'm perfectly aware of that, too. Of course, Hamas is not a saint. But there are awful people on both sides, unfortunately.

Netanyahu has been sought after by the ICC over genocide charges. Now, I'm not entirely informed enough to say that it is, but they are very serious charges indeed. It's quite distressing to see people still supporting Israel in the way that they do. I mean, do they know that they might be supporting a genocide? What the hell are they even thinking? And, yes, I see polls show a change in attitude towards Israel in the US. Well, in a way that's relieving. And, also, Jews are no monolith. Many younger Jews don't support Israel. Just wish people wouldn't put Jews and Israel into the same category.

I'm not entirely convinced the song was actually meant to say that you should go out and kill Arabs.

'In the US, the Cure's first compilation of singles, Standing on a Beach (1986), was packaged with a sticker advising against racist usage of the song after a student DJ on WPRB Princeton offended listeners by insensitively introducing the track prior to playing it on the radio in October 1986.[9] Robert Smith and Elektra Records requested that radio stations discontinue airing the song and saw the sticker as a compromise to prevent having to pull the album from sale entirely. Smith said that the song was "being used increasingly by certain reactionary factions of the media, most notably by some particularly brainless DJ's, as a part of a wave of anti-Arab feeling currently existing in some parts of America."[10] Chris Parry, who produced the song, said that "if it was called 'The Stranger', we couldn't have had this problem."[11] Smith conceded in 2003 that he should have titled the song "Standing on the Beach" instead.[4]'

I'm impressed you're aware of it because most people here aren't. Comedian - Eliza Schlesinger points it out but sadly no one's noticed.

I'm perfectly aware of that, too. Of course, Hamas is not a saint. But there are awful people on both sides, unfortunately.

You make a good point. I'm more supportive of Israel BUT I don't approve of what/how they're doing things. Israel seriously needs to give Palestine independence and start treating them a lot better just as much as the Palestinian people need to get rid of Hammas/Hezbollah. Right now, I kind of think Netanyahu is the problem and apparently so many Israelis think the same.

I just want to add; it's refreshing to hear what you guys have to say about all this. Down here, people are terribly ignorant and biased. Can't have a reasonable and informed discussion with the majority of people here.

It comes across as very Avant Garde which fits in with Goth culture.

The problem I have with Avant Garde is reactions like this. I can't help but feel like Avant Garde artists just want to wind people up and cause negativity.... it's not good. 😒

I don't think Robert Smith intended to provoke Anti-Arab sentiment, but you got to realise that the artist doesn't necessarily have complete artistic control.
