Because some people just use falling ill and short time on this planet as an excuse to make you forgive them when they are truly not worthy of it. My own mother has been trying to guilt trip me recently to forgive my stepfather for molesting me and to get me to ask his forgiveness for pushing the issue of him owning up to what he did. All because he's sick and quite possibly dying. Fuck that. If I won't forgive when you're healthy and alive I sure as fuck won't forgive because you're sick and dying.

It is a common plot in Hollywood, the whole you'll feel sorry when I am gone thing. People have unresolved issues, and regret not seeking closure while they were alive.
